NFL Draft Grades 2022
The buccaneers failed to address team needs
Tampa Bay didn’t address many teams’ needs going into the 2022 NFL Draft, but they did significantly improve their draft class. While the Buccaneers didn’t draft in the first round, they led off the second round with Logan Hall, an offensive lineman, to address a need.
They hope to get something else out of offensive lineman Luke Goedeke and running back Rachaad White. Lastly, the Bucs needed depth at the tight end, so they used two picks to select tight ends. They also drafted a punter, who will likely fill in a role on the field.
Although the Buccaneers did not have a number of needs entering the draft, they still didn’t address them adequately, failing to add a defensive lineman and a three-technique defensive tackle.
Perrion Winfrey of Oklahoma is a viable option. Besides having a good length and an ideal first step, he could be a designated pass-rusher.

Texans took a QB
The Texans were among several teams with needs in the 2006 NFL Draft, but the Texans didn’t take a quarterback. They took the defensive end, Mario Williams, from N.C. State instead.
The top quarterback was Vince Young, who went No. 3 to the Titans and started 50 games. Other quarterbacks taken were Jay Cutler of the Denver Broncos and Matt Leinart of the Arizona Cardinals. Texans’ general manager, Charley Casserly, had said prior to the draft that he would not take a quarterback. However, the Texans selected Williams over USC running back Reggie Bush.
While Watson is still under investigation by the NFL, the Texans did pick a quarterback in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Deshaun Watson, who was taken fourth overall by the Browns, sat out last season as a result of a trade request and 22 sexual harassment and assault lawsuits against him.
While Mills’ performance has been limited thus far, the Texans are hoping that the rookie will mature into a signal-caller and establish himself as a leader in the team’s locker room.

The bills took a punt returner
The Bills didn’t take a punt returner in this year’s draft, but Spector has great special teams ability.
He was a two-year starter at Clemson and had 210 tackles with 22 tackles for loss. He is capable of playing both inside and outside.
Spector will compete for a backup linebacker job and special teams snap behind Tre’Davious White and Bernard. In addition, he can also play cornerback, so his versatility will help the Bills.
While the Bills are lacking in depth at running back and wide receiver, they’ve addressed their needs elsewhere, like at punter and linebacker.
They haven’t gotten a plus value in this draft, but they’re in the right range to contend in a high-pressure environment. If a punter goes undrafted in Day 2 or later, the Bills can still pick up a solid punter.

The jets drafted a running back
Despite missing the pre-draft process due to a foot injury, Ruckert is a solid choice for the Jets. Coach Doug Douglas said he is confident in Ruckert’s health.
Ruckert is a native of Long Island, and he grew up as a Jets fan. The Jets also like Ruckert’s versatility and size. Here are three other running back prospects worth considering.
RB – The Jets have several needs for running backs. While they aren’t likely to add a top-tier No. 1 back this year, there are still a couple of good options.
In addition to the veteran Cordarrelle Patterson, they could also choose to draft a running back who can fit the team’s zone run game. However, the Jets are unlikely to draft a running back to replace the already-deployed Jonathan Stewart.

Seahawks drafted a QB
The Seattle Seahawks haven’t drafted a quarterback in the NFL draft yet, but they did pick a linebacker. At No. 9, the Seahawks selected Mississippi State offensive tackle Charles Cross.
Cross was a first-team All-SEC selection last year and was named Freshman All-SEC this past spring. Cross measures 6 feet 5 and runs a 4.95 forty-yard dash at the NFL combine. He ranked 10th among offensive linemen.
Seattle’s QB situation is a bit more complicated than most people realize. While it may be a bit difficult to understand why the Seahawks drafted a quarterback in the first round, they’ve been focusing on improving their defense since Russell Wilson was traded to the Los Angeles Rams. Their offense isn’t putting up big numbers, but they’re building a team that will be tough to beat.

Ravens drafted a running back
The Ravens selected a running back in the first round, filling a perceived need. The team also drafted a reliable OLB in David Ojabo.
The Ravens were able to fill a lot of needs in the draft, with the three first-round picks being solid choices. But over the next eight picks, the Ravens have to make tough decisions as to whether they should keep the running back Lamar Jackson.
While Ojabo had been considered a top-10 prospect heading into the draft, he suffered a torn Achilles at the pro day and is not likely to play until 2023.
The Ravens have been looking to bolster their defensive line, and Hamilton fits that bill well. Although he’ll likely sit on the sidelines for a few years, he is worth the investment in the future.

Colts drafted a defensive lineman
Indianapolis was one of the first teams to draft a defensive lineman in the NFL Draft, and the Colts’ pick was not the worst choice.
The team had the best offensive line in the league, but after losing left tackle Anthony Castonzo to retirement, they needed to bolster their unit.
The Indianapolis draft was extremely deep and many top prospects were gone by the time the Colts picked 54th. In fact, the Colts chose a defensive lineman from North Dakota State, Dillon Radunz.
While the Colts didn’t pick a defensive lineman during the first round, they did draft an edge-rusher.
Kwity Paye was ranked as the top edge prospect on multiple draft boards, and he went to Indianapolis at number 21. With his size, strength, and speed, Paye will address a huge hole in the Colts’ defense and could potentially end up on several Pro Bowl teams.

The jets drafted a wide receiver
There was some debate as to whether the Jets should have taken a quarterback in the first round of the NFL draft or a wide receiver instead. However, the team opted for a receiver and drafted George Pickens at No. 53.
Pickens is a risky pick because of his medical history, but his explosiveness and ball skills are unquestionable. His college grades reflect his potential.
With three first-round picks and seven selections in the first four rounds, the Jets’ draft was a stunning reversal of convention. Despite being a surprising team, they drafted four wide receivers and three cornerbacks.
They also selected a running back, Breece Hall from Iowa State. With a slew of draft picks, the Jets wide receiver group could look like a great one.

Seahawks drafted a quarterback
The Seahawks drafted a quarterback in this year’s NFL draft, and their decision-making process is being analyzed. They didn’t get clever with their first pick, but they didn’t reach, either.

Ravens drafted a wide receiver
The Ravens could have selected Nevada’s Romeo Doubs or Fayetteville State cornerback Joshua Williams. If they had chosen a punter, they might have taken a wide receiver. But the Ravens instead landed on Texas-San Antonio cornerback Tariq Woolen.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound corner had a 4.26 Combine time. That makes him a better prospect than Damarion Williams, though the Ravens still need a receiver.
Though he’s a true freshman, Stingley was a stud as a true freshman at LSU. He allowed only a 51.4 passer rating in coverage and had 21 pass breakups.
Stingley has a rare combination of athleticism and movement skills. He’ll fit in well with Houston’s offense and provide a solid foundation for their young secondary.
